Finally…some sunshine

I’m feeling hopeful currently. I joined Gold’s Gym on Friday. I went in Sat (50 min) and Sun (45 min) and did cardio. I feel really good about it. In my opinion the key is to keep my calories low…take refined sugar out of my diet, and get enough good food fuel to allow me to work out a minimum of 5 day per week.

I really feel like the way I look is impeding my social life. I don’t get asked out. I have great friends but my want for a partner dulls my mood sometimes and I don’t want to be out looking at other couples or seeing men who don’t make eye contact. I want to be desired. I want to be attractive in the generally accepted sense, and I don’t think that there is anything wrong with that.

I weighted in at Gold’s and I’m 190.4 as of yesterday. That’s actually about 7 pounds less than I thought so that was good, but I want to get down to at least 140 (I’m 5′5″ by the way). 130 would be ideal with good muscle tone. I’m very impatient about these things and I want to see results. I’m trying to calm myself and realize that 50 pounds will not drop off over night. One of the best things I can do for myself right now is realize that I’ve been addicted to food. For the past 2 weeks I’ve really monitored my eating and realized the the motivation for me to eat often times is mental. I’m not hungry at all. I’m eating for all the wrong reasons. I’ve now committed myself to “mindful” eating…knowing why I’m eating and not eating when I know I’m just trying to medicate myself with food. It’s going to be hard because I’ve been doing this since childhood when I used to sneak and eat fruit or by sweets from the corner store. I learned a lot of this behavior from family members as well. However, I want to be free and I will be free.

  • Hi There,

It’s nice to see somebody is motivated to take care of themselves. If I may give my two cents, the key to get toned (not lose weight) is to eat right and exercise regularly, correctly.

When you eat right, it means you eat proportional carbs, protein and fat and the supplements that you need. If you are overweight, you would want to cut down (not stop!) eating carbs. Especially anything with sugar. Softdrinks are bad for you, those deepfried foods are also not good for you. Eating good breakfast also makes you feel comfortable and your diet successful for the rest of the day. In my experience, if I start my day with sloppy breakfast, I’ll end up eating lots of snacks and that is where you get your extra fat!

The other thing is, weight does not mean much. Because, if your fat is reduced and your muscle is growing, you will only be firmer and tighter, your jeans are lose, but your weight stays the same. So, the key is, weight lifting. Aerobics and Cardios are good, it burns fat while you are exercising, and a good fat buster. But try adding it with weight lifting. When you do weights, your muscle is still working to build up which burns energy for 48 hours. So, if you work out big muscles like your hamstring or quads, you will still be burning fat when you are watching TV after you finish exercising!

In order to get your muscles fed, eat enough protein. The rule of thumb is, 1 kg of your weight needs 1 gram of protein. If you are trying to build muscle, that will be 1.5 gram. Don’t be afraid of being fat because of your protein intake; your muscle needs food and if you do weights, you need protein to build your muscles. You need energy to burn energy, that is my motto.

I’ve done this, my weight is still the same as before I exercised, but all my jeans and trousers are loose. And you are right, it is a good feeling to see ourself in the front of the mirror.

If you do this consistantly, you will see improvement in 2-3 months. Keep working out! Let me know how it works out! I hope this tip helps. Cheers.
